Wind, ice and a couple of decades on a chimney stack take their toll on any aerial, and the symptoms are usually obvious before the picture disappears altogether: a channel that pixelates in the rain, sound that drops out, or a signal that has simply gone. We repair what can be repaired and only recommend a new aerial when the old one genuinely cannot be brought back.
Why aerials fail across Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire
Most of the aerial repairs we carry out in and around Oxford, Witney and Abingdon come down to one of a handful of causes: a bracket has worked loose over years of wind loading, an element has bent or snapped in a storm, or water has found its way into a connector and started corroding the contacts inside.
Older aerials, particularly wideband types fitted before the digital switchover, were often specified for a different broadcast environment and can struggle even when physically sound. In those cases the fix is a correctly specified replacement rather than a repeat repair.
No signal or a picture that keeps breaking up
A complete loss of signal points to something disconnected, snapped or badly misaligned, and is usually quick to diagnose once we are on the roof or in the loft. Pixelating or dropping channels that come and go with weather or time of day is trickier and often means the aerial is receiving a marginal signal that a healthy system would shrug off, commonly due to partial misalignment, a degraded downlead, or interference creeping in from newer equipment nearby.
Realignment after wind or nearby building work
An aerial only needs to move a few degrees off its transmitter for reception to suffer, and that can happen from wind alone or from scaffolding and building work going up nearby. We check the alignment against the correct transmitter for your address, whether that is Oxford at Beckley, Hannington to the south, or Sandy Heath further north, and reset it precisely rather than by eye.
Amplifiers, splitters and the cabling behind the wall
Not every fault is at the aerial itself. Amplifiers that have failed or been overloaded, splitters feeding too many points, and cable runs that have degraded or picked up interference all produce symptoms that look identical to an aerial problem from the television screen. We test the whole signal path, from the aerial head down to the point where the cable meets the television, so the repair addresses the actual fault rather than the most visible part of the system.
- Signal strength and quality measured at the aerial and at each outlet
- Amplifiers tested under load, not just powered on
- Cable and connectors checked for corrosion and water ingress
- Distribution equipment replaced only where testing confirms it has failed
Working across Oxford, Witney, Abingdon, Banbury, Henley, Reading and Aylesbury
We carry out aerial repairs throughout Oxfordshire and into Berkshire and Buckinghamshire, including Oxford, Witney, Abingdon, Banbury, Henley-on-Thames, Reading and Aylesbury. Roof types and building age vary a good deal across that area, from Victorian terraces to modern estates and rural properties on their own supply, and we bring the right access equipment and fixings for the job rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

How quickly can you repair a faulty aerial?
We aim to get to storm damage and total signal loss quickly, often within a day or two, since these leave a household without television altogether. Less urgent intermittent faults are usually booked within the week.
Is it cheaper to repair my aerial or replace it?
Repair is usually cheaper and is our first recommendation where the aerial, mast and bracket are sound. We only suggest replacement when the aerial is genuinely at the end of its life or was undersized for the property to begin with.
Why does my picture only break up when it rains or is windy?
This points to a marginal signal being tipped over the edge by water ingress in a connector, a slightly misaligned aerial, or a bracket flexing in the wind. It is one of the more common faults we diagnose and usually has a straightforward fix.
Do you repair aerials on all roof types?
Yes, we work on chimney-mounted, wall-mounted and freestanding aerials on slate, tile, thatch and flat roofs across Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire, bringing the right access equipment for each property.
Could the fault be inside the house rather than at the aerial?
It can be. Amplifiers, splitters and internal cabling all fail in ways that look like an aerial problem, which is why we test the whole system rather than assuming the aerial itself is at fault.
Do you offer any guarantee on repair work?
Yes, repair work carries our standard workmanship guarantee, and any parts fitted come with their manufacturer warranty. Details are on our guarantee page.
