Wall mounting looks straightforward until the wall in question is solid stone, dot-and-dab plasterboard, or a chimney breast above a working fire. We check what is behind the plaster before we drill, choose a bracket rated for the television and the wall, and route cables so the only thing visible is the screen.
The wall decides the bracket, not the television
A bracket that is fine on solid brick can pull straight out of dot-and-dab plasterboard if it is not fixed back to the blockwork behind it. Before we fit anything we establish what the wall is actually built from, so the fixing point carries the weight of the television for years rather than months. Where the wall will not safely take a direct fixing, we use a plyboard backing plate spread across several studs or dabs instead.
Cable concealment, done properly
Most requests for wall mounting are really requests for a tidy wall. We can run cables inside an in-wall rated conduit for stud and dot-and-dab walls, or through a chased channel for solid masonry, so the power lead and any AV cables disappear behind the plaster rather than sitting in surface trunking.
Where chasing is not appropriate, for example on a rented property or a wall we should not cut into, a paintable cable channel gives a neat result without any building work.
Mounting above a fireplace or log burner
Chimney breasts are a popular spot for a television, and also the one place where heat matters as much as the fixing. We assess the height above the appliance, the flue construction and how hot the wall actually gets in use, because a television mounted too close to a working log burner will shorten its own life regardless of how well the bracket is fitted. Where the position is too warm, we will say so and suggest an alternative rather than mount it anyway.
Bracket types, matched to how you actually watch
A fixed bracket suits a wall directly in front of the seating. A tilting bracket helps where the screen sits higher than eye level. A full-motion arm is worth the extra cost in a kitchen, a corner room, or anywhere the viewing angle changes through the day. We talk through how the room is used before recommending which type earns its keep.

Can you mount a television on a stone or solid brick wall?
Yes, this is routine work for us across Oxfordshire's older housing stock. Solid masonry generally takes a direct fixing well, provided the correct fixings and drill bits are used and the mortar joints are avoided where possible.
Will you hide the cables inside the wall?
Where the wall allows it, yes, using an in-wall rated conduit or a chased channel so the finish is flush and paintable. We will tell you honestly if a particular wall is not suitable for chasing, for example a party wall or a rented property, and offer a surface-mounted alternative instead.
Is it safe to mount a television above a log burner or fireplace?
It depends on the height and how hot the wall gets in normal use. We check this before recommending a position, and will advise against mounting directly above an appliance where the heat would affect the television over time.
Do you supply the bracket or do I need to buy one?
We can supply a bracket suited to your television and wall, or fit a bracket you already own provided it is rated for the screen size and weight. Either way we check the fixing is right for the wall before drilling.
How long does a wall mounting job take?
A straightforward mount with surface cable management typically takes around an hour. Chasing cables into the wall or fitting a backing plate on plasterboard adds time, and we will give you a realistic estimate when you book.
