TV aerial installation in Oxford, built around the city's unusual housing stock
Oxford is not a straightforward city to fit aerials in. College buildings, conservation areas and a huge stock of listed and heritage properties sit alongside dense Victorian terraces converted into flats and student houses, and newer housing further out towards Marston and Blackbird Leys. We've worked across OX1 to OX4 for over a decade, handling everything from a single satellite dish on a Jericho terrace to a communal aerial system serving a shared house in Cowley, and we're happy to take on the trickier jobs, including high-height installs on taller buildings, motorised dishes and foreign-language TV setups that other installers sometimes turn away.
Storm damage, slipped masts and failed boosters repaired on Oxford rooftops, with Jericho and Cowley among our regular stops.
TV aerial repair in Oxford often means untangling someone else's shortcuts, from a snapped element on an exposed Headington rooftop to corroded connectors on a Cowley Road HMO feed that's been left untouched for years. We carry out proper antenna repair rather than a blanket replacement, retuning the system afterwards so every room on a shared feed is checked, not just the set that first reported the fault.
Pole, wall or ridge mounts for Starlink in Summertown and Botley, with the cable brought neatly indoors.
Starlink and satellite broadband dish mounting comes up mainly where a property's broadband has always been unreliable despite being within the city, such as certain college annexes or homes tucked behind taller buildings. Fitting one properly means finding a clear view of open sky, usually on a chimney bracket, wall mount or a discreet pole away from overhanging trees, and running the cable back indoors without leaving trip hazards. We're not a Starlink partner and don't sell the hardware, but we handle the mounting, siting and alignment for customers who've bought their own kit.

Oxford takes its Freeview signal from the Oxford (Beckley) transmitter, which sits close enough to the city that most areas get a strong, stable signal without much difficulty. That said, the city's terrain and building density create their own quirks: the dip around the river floodplains in Osney and parts of Botley can shade the signal slightly, tall college buildings and mature trees in the city centre sometimes create reflections or partial blocking for aerials mounted low on a wall, and in Headington's hillier streets the direction a roof faces relative to Beckley can make a bigger difference than you'd expect over such a short distance. We always check with a signal meter on site rather than assume a standard fit will do.
Common aerial faults across OX1 to OX4
A large share of our Oxford work involves properties that are either listed, within a conservation area, or part of a college estate, where aerials and dishes need to be positioned to minimise visual impact, often on a rear elevation, tucked behind a parapet, or run through existing chimney stacks rather than fixed to render or stonework. In the HMOs and student lets common around Cowley Road, Iffley Road and Divinity Road, we regularly find communal aerial systems that were installed cheaply years ago, split too many ways, and never properly maintained, leading to some rooms getting a poor picture while others on the same feed are fine. In Jericho and Summertown's older terraces, the more common issue is an aerial that predates digital switchover, mounted in a spot that made sense for analogue reception but is not the best position now. Further out in Headington, Marston and Blackbird Leys, faults tend to be more conventional, storm damage, loose brackets and ageing cabling on 1960s and 70s housing stock.
Wind-knocked dishes in Cowley realigned, rusty brackets in Headington replaced, and new Oxford installs tested on screen.
Satellite dish installation and satellite repair are steady work for us across Oxford's colleges, terraces and student housing. A Jericho terrace dish knocked out of alignment by a gust off the river, a Sky dish that needs moving during a loft conversion, or a Freesat system going into a Marston semi are all typical call-outs. We also fit and align foreign-language satellite setups, including motorised dishes, for Oxford's large international student and academic population, checking elevation and azimuth properly rather than eyeballing the fix.
Aerial work for Oxford's colleges, terraces and HMOs
Oxford's property stock ranges from stone and Cotswold-brick colleges and Georgian townhouses in the centre, many of them listed or within conservation areas, to Victorian terraces in Jericho and Summertown that have since been split into flats and student lets. Cowley and Iffley Road are dense with HMOs on shared aerial feeds, while Headington, Marston and Blackbird Leys mix older village cores with 1960s and 70s estate housing and pockets of newer infill. Each type calls for a different approach, from loft-only fixings on a listed building to rebalancing a communal system across a converted terrace.

Oxford aerial and satellite FAQs
Can you fit an aerial or satellite dish on a listed building in Oxford?
Yes, this is a large part of what we do in the city. We look for positions that avoid visible fixing to stonework or render wherever possible, often using existing chimney stacks, rear elevations, or in some cases discreet loft-mounted aerials that avoid any external fitting at all. We're happy to talk through the options for a specific property before committing to a plan.
Why do some rooms in an Oxford shared house get worse reception than others?
This is very common in the city's HMOs and student lets, and it's almost always down to an old or overloaded communal aerial system. Signal gets weaker the more times it's split, and older systems are often not amplified properly, so tenants further from the main feed end up with a noticeably worse picture. We can test the whole system and either rebalance it or fit new distribution equipment so every room gets a comparable signal.
Does Oxford's hilly terrain around Headington actually affect reception?
It can, more than people expect for such a compact city. Because Headington sits on higher, undulating ground relative to the Beckley transmitter, the direction a roof faces and what's immediately in front of it can matter as much as the general area, which is why we always test with a meter on site rather than relying on a rule of thumb for the postcode.
Do you install foreign-language and satellite TV in Oxford?
Yes, this is one of our specialisms. Oxford's international student and academic population means we regularly fit Hotbird and other foreign-language satellite setups, including motorised dishes for households wanting access to a wider range of European channels, and we're comfortable with the more technical side of aligning and configuring these systems.
How do you avoid affecting a college or conservation-area building's appearance?
We plan the position before any fixing takes place, generally favouring rear elevations, existing chimney stacks or loft spaces over visible front-facing mounts, and where a property has specific conservation constraints we work within them rather than defaulting to a standard install.
How quickly can you attend an aerial fault in Oxford?
Same-day appointments are usually available across OX1 to OX4, and around 95 percent of our call-outs are resolved fully in one visit. If a part needs sourcing for an unusual college or listed-building fitting, we'll say so before we leave.
Do you offer Starlink dish mounting for homes with poor broadband in Oxford?
Yes, where a customer has their own Starlink or satellite broadband kit, we can mount and align the dish, finding a clear sky view and running the cable back neatly. We're independent of any broadband provider and are simply carrying out the physical mounting and siting work.
Can you fit CCTV or wall-mount a TV during the same visit as an aerial job in Oxford?
Yes, CCTV installation and TV wall mounting are both services we can combine with an aerial or satellite job in one appointment, which tends to work out more convenient for terraced properties and student lets with limited access.
