Most home cinema installations aren't built from scratch in a purpose-designed room; they're fitted into a snug, a converted barn, or a lounge that also has to work as a lounge. We install projectors, screens, in-ceiling speakers and surround sound systems across Oxfordshire with the cabling hidden and the calibration done properly, rather than a tangle of wires behind a soundbar.
Projector or a very large television
A projector and screen still gives the largest, most cinematic image for the money in most rooms, and modern models cope far better with ambient light than they used to, but they aren't automatically the right choice. Rooms with large windows, high daytime use, or an awkward throw distance sometimes suit a large-format television better, and we'll tell you which applies to your room rather than defaulting to whichever we happen to be selling.
Where a projector is the right call, getting the throw distance, screen size and mounting height correct before any fixing goes into the ceiling matters far more than the model of projector itself. We measure and confirm this on site rather than working from a generic online calculator.
Surround sound that doesn't dominate the room
In-ceiling and in-wall speakers let you run a genuine 5.1 or 7.1 surround system, or Dolby Atmos with height channels, without a room full of floor-standing boxes and visible cabling.
- In-ceiling speakers for surround and height channels
- In-wall front and centre speakers where floor space matters
- Subwoofer placement and cabling for even bass across the room
- Amplifier and AV receiver setup and configuration
- Integration with existing television or streaming sources
Barn conversions and period properties
Barn conversions and converted outbuildings around Chipping Norton, Burford and the villages towards Witney often have vaulted ceilings, exposed beams and thick stone walls, all of which change how speakers should be positioned and how cable can realistically be routed. We work with the building rather than against it, running cable through existing voids and roof spaces wherever possible and being upfront when a surface-mounted run is genuinely the only option.
Listed and period properties need particular care, since chasing cable into original walls isn't always permitted or advisable. We plan cable routes that respect the building first and adjust the speaker layout accordingly.
Cable management, done properly
A home cinema installation lives or dies on how well the cabling is hidden. We chase cables into plasterboard and stud walls where appropriate, run them through loft and floor voids for longer distances, and use in-wall power kits so a wall-mounted screen or projector doesn't need a visible extension lead trailing to a socket.
Calibration once everything is fitted
Once the equipment is in place, we set projector geometry and colour, balance the surround channels for the room's actual shape and furnishings, and check subwoofer levels so bass doesn't boom in one corner and disappear in another. A cinema system that's wired correctly but never calibrated rarely performs as well as it should.

Should I get a projector or a very large television?
It depends on the room. Bright rooms with large windows or heavy daytime use often suit a television better, while a darker or dedicated room usually gets more from a projector and screen. We'll assess your specific room rather than assume.
Can you hide all the cabling?
In most cases, yes, either chased into the wall, run through loft and floor voids, or concealed within trunking designed to match the room. We'll always be clear if a particular route isn't practical or advisable, especially in listed buildings.
Do you work on barn conversions and period properties?
Yes, this is a regular part of our work around Chipping Norton, Burford and the surrounding villages, and we plan cable routes and speaker positions around the building's construction rather than a standard new-build layout.
Do you supply the equipment or just install it?
We can supply projectors, screens, speakers and amplifiers, or install equipment you've already bought. Either way, we'll advise honestly on whether it's suited to your room.
Is calibration really necessary?
It makes a genuine difference. Uncalibrated surround sound and projector geometry are common reasons a system that's wired perfectly still sounds or looks disappointing, and it only takes a short amount of time once installation is complete.
