A fair number of villages and outlying farms across Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire still see broadband speeds that struggle with a video call, let alone a household of streaming and working from home. Starlink can genuinely fix that, but only if the dish has a clear, uninterrupted view of the sky and is mounted somewhere the cable run makes sense. We survey, mount and wire Starlink installations properly rather than propping the dish on a windowsill and hoping.

Why the mounting position is the whole job

Starlink needs a clear, unobstructed view of a large area of sky to maintain a stable connection, and trees, chimneys, neighbouring buildings and even a nearby hedge growing over a season or two can all interrupt it. The dish's own app gives a rough obstruction reading, but it doesn't tell you where on the property the best position actually is, or how to get a cable from that spot into the house without it looking like an afterthought and letting water in.

We carry out a proper obstruction survey on site, checking the sky view from several candidate positions at different times if needed, before recommending a mounting point. On a lot of rural Oxfordshire properties that turns out to be a gable end, a chimney bracket, or a pole set away from the main building rather than the obvious spot on the main roof.

Roof, gable, pole and ground mounts

The right mount depends on the roof pitch, the building's construction and how much clearance is available.

  • Roof and gable brackets for straightforward, unobstructed positions
  • Chimney mounts where they offer height without extra structure
  • Freestanding poles set in the ground for outbuildings and paddocks
  • Wall mounts on barns and agricultural buildings
  • Temporary or seasonal mounting for smallholdings and static caravans

Getting the cable into the house without a mess

Starlink's proprietary cable needs a weatherproof entry point into the building, ideally routed through a wall or eave rather than left running under a door or through an open window, which is a common temporary fix that causes damp and draught problems over time. We drill and seal a proper entry point, route the cable through loft or void spaces where possible, and terminate it neatly near the router position.

Router placement and mesh wifi around the house

A Starlink dish gives you the connection, but a router stuck in a hallway cupboard because that's where the cable happened to land will still leave weak wifi in a converted barn, an upstairs office or a stone-built farmhouse with thick walls. We plan the router's position as part of the same visit, and add mesh access points where the property's size or construction genuinely needs them.

This is particularly relevant for period and rural properties around Burford, Chipping Norton and the villages towards Thame and Newbury, where solid stone or thick brick walls block wifi far more than modern plasterboard does.

Who this tends to suit

Starlink installation work is most worthwhile for properties where standard broadband delivers low single-digit speeds, where no fibre upgrade is realistically on the horizon, or where a business, farm or home office genuinely depends on a stable connection. We'll give you an honest view during the survey if your existing broadband options would suit you just as well.

Questions we are asked about this work

Do you supply the Starlink kit or just install it?

We can install kit you've already ordered, or advise on what to buy for your property before you order it. Either way, the survey, mounting and cabling work is the same.

How do you know where the dish should go?

We carry out an obstruction survey on site, checking the sky view from realistic mounting positions, rather than relying only on the app's suggestion, which doesn't account for cable routing or long-term tree growth.

Can you mount Starlink on a barn or outbuilding?

Yes, we regularly mount dishes on barns, garages and agricultural buildings where that gives a clearer sky view than the main house, running the cable back to the property as needed.

Will Starlink definitely fix my broadband problem?

For most rural properties with poor fixed-line broadband, yes, but not universally. We'll tell you honestly during the visit if your situation suggests otherwise.

Can you improve wifi around the rest of the house too?

Yes, we plan router placement as part of the installation and can add mesh access points for larger or thick-walled properties that need more even coverage.

Do you cover rural areas outside Oxford itself?

Yes, this work is aimed squarely at rural and outlying properties, and we regularly install around Witney, Chipping Orton, Burford, Thame, Newbury and High Wycombe as well as closer to Oxford.
