  • Recorders sited discreetly and locked down
  • Remote viewing set up on your phone
  • Existing systems repaired, extended and re-aimed

A camera system is only worth having if the footage identifies somebody. We plan coverage around the approaches to your property, the light you actually have at night, and where a recorder can sit safely, then set the system up so you can find a clip without a manual.

Placement matters more than megapixels

Most disappointing systems are not under-specified, they are badly aimed. Cameras mounted too high look at the tops of heads, cameras facing a security light record a white bloom, and a camera covering a wide drive at a distance records a shape rather than a person.

We walk the property first, work out the natural approach routes and pinch points, and put cameras where a face or a plate will be recognisable. Where a wide view is genuinely wanted we say so, rather than pretending one camera can do everything.

Night-time and rural properties

Much of our work is on farms, barn conversions and houses down unlit lanes, where there is no ambient light at all. That changes the specification:

  • Infrared range matched to the distance actually being watched
  • Cameras kept out of the path of security lighting and headlights
  • Cabling routed to survive livestock, machinery and weather
  • Recorders placed away from the obvious break-in point
  • Sensible motion zones so you are not alerted by every fox

Homes, holiday lets and small businesses

For domestic customers we usually cover the front approach, the rear garden and any side access. For shops, workshops, yards and holiday lets we add till points, entrances, stock areas and parking. In every case we keep the system as simple as possible to live with, because a system nobody understands stops getting checked.

Privacy and being a good neighbour

Domestic CCTV that captures a neighbour's garden, windows or shared access brings data protection obligations with it. We angle and mask cameras to keep coverage on your own property wherever we can, and explain plainly where a view is unavoidable so you can decide how to handle it.

Questions we are asked about this work

How many cameras do I actually need?

Most houses are well covered by two to four cameras placed on the approaches rather than one on each wall. We would rather fit fewer cameras in the right positions than sell you a bundled kit where half the views are wasted.

Can I view the cameras when I am away?

Yes. We set up remote viewing on your phone or tablet before we leave and show you how to scroll back through recordings. If your broadband is slow we configure the app so live viewing stays usable.

Will you repair a system somebody else installed?

Often, yes. Cameras that have drifted out of position, water in a connector, a failed hard drive or a recorder nobody can log into are all common call-outs. We will tell you honestly if the existing kit is too old to be worth repairing.

How long is footage kept?

That depends on the recorder's storage, the number of cameras and how the recording is triggered. We size the storage to the retention period you want, typically two to four weeks, and confirm it with you when specifying the system.

Do you install CCTV for farms and outbuildings?

Regularly. Rural properties are a large part of our CCTV work, including yards, barns, machinery stores and gated entrances, where cable routes and night-time coverage need more thought than a suburban house.

Tell us what your television is doing.

Describe the fault or the job and we will tell you what is likely involved, what it should cost and when we can be with you. No obligation, no pressure.
